UPDATED PLANNING APPLICATIONS TO 16 DECEMBER 2007. Your Community Council is notified weekly of new planning applications in our area and we will post these as routine. Generally, applications are non-controversial but if there are any that we feel require further information, the Planning Authority will be requested to supply details. The cuurent list, which can be downloaded from the link below indicates (in bold) applications which have been queried and (shaded) most recent applications. Although not yet applied for, there is a development at the old Stepps Primary School site which is causing concern to immediate residents. Details of this are posted as a separate consultation.

In response to threats and proposals to reduce bus services to Stepps, the Community Council has continually voiced its concerns to the service companies since June 2006. Essentially, SPT regard the 32/33 service as commercially unviable, as there is little usage of the service and are seeking to withdraw. However, the social value of the service is invaluable and we have called upon North Lanarkshire Council and the SPT to retain the subsidy. Modification to the route planning of the 36 service, arguably, will effect the whole community to a greater extent. The current proposal is to terminate the service at Moodiesburn/Mollinsburn and expect passengers to change to reach Cumbernauld. Bearing in mind that the 36 is the only through service for Stepps, this is unacceptible as it will compromise the travel of secondary pupils to Our Ladies and people seeking council services in Cumbernauld. So far, despite petitions and Comunity Council initiated press covreage in the local press, First Bus and the SPT have not relented in their proposals to downgrade services. Our next steps will be to lobby Scottish Executive and MSP's.
