Cambusbarron Local Issues

Can Cambusbarron Community Council please arrange to contact Stirling Council Planning/Streetscape ASAP to seek info about the Persimmons site regarding lack of Street Sweeping of the dust and mud from work vehicles outside the site and adjoining road, or seek extra sweeping by Stirling Council Streetscape? Also can you seek advice from Countryside Services regarding the removal of one of the large metal seat/benches from our Quarry Footpath just up from the Quarry road Gate, I assume the young ones have ripped it out and carried it further up the hill into the Quarry, how do we set about relocating it back to its original position?

A lot of deliberation went into selecting the successful projects, and we look forward to being able to support many projects over the coming years.' Falck Renewables project manager, Euan Fraser, said: ‘One of our main aims in the communities where we build wind farms is always to be good neighbours and to ensure that the wind farm plays a part in community life. 'We're delighted that the community benefit fund is up and running and already helping some very worthwhile local causes.' The Earlsburn wind farm has 15 turbines and produces enough green electricity to power 25,000 homes. The Earlsburn Community Benefit Fund is administered by the Scottish Community Foundation. Save Gillieshill. Latest news from recent Stirling Council meeting on proposed new quarry workings

Re: recent Stirling Council meeting: an update: Many thanks to all the Save the Gillieshill team for all their hard work. ___________ Stirling Council’s deliberation of the Gillies Hill issue was an emphatic vindication of Save Gillies Hill’s stance. Every councillor who spoke, from all three parties, explicitly endorsed our campaign, and our particular aim – for an EIA to be carried out – was accepted. Nobody spoke against. SGH and its supporters were effusively congratulated. We knew before the meeting those councillors who had previously supported us; now they all do. It’s a mark of progress when the Leader of the Council says “It would be a tragedy, utter folly, for this to go ahead.” The officials conceded that an error had been made in 2002 in not ensuring an EIA; they were contrition personified. It’s the best result we could have wished for – we’ve now got Stirling Council on our side; and it would have been unthinkable last February – so well done to everybody: sometimes the good guys win. Of course, we haven’t, in fact, won yet: there’s still a long way to go: the whole business of now getting this EIA done is a complex one, but definitely do-able, and we now need to focus on what we think that Assessment should, in fact, assess: Douglas (Campbell) has agreed to be our Co-ordinator in this; Peggy, our American botanist will also prove useful here. So there’s still a lot of work ahead. But we’re making real progress

Murrayshall Quarry latest news

Wednesday, 3rd October, 2007 Council to hire QC over Gillieshill Stirling Council has announced today (Wed 3 October) that advice will be sought from Queens Counsel in response to local concerns regarding the recommencing of quarrying at Murrayshall Quarry, Gillieshill, Cambusbarron. This is as a result of a review by Stirling Council of the original planning consent issued in 1982 which has been on-going since summer 2007. The review has raised a number of complex issues that will be difficult to resolve, including the need for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). In view of the importance of this matter, it is considered that Counsel’s opinion is now sought on the issue of whether an EIA is required and what options are available before the matter is reported to Council, expected by December.

save gillieshill

I was born in c/barron and raised in gillieshill,im now 34yrs old. a good few years ago i left and got married and now stay in the hillfoots, but have alwaz said i would come back to c/barron tomorrow. i still have family and many friends in the villiage and i return almost everyweek to family and the graveyard. on saturday myself,my dad and my little brother went up the woods for a walk, i havent been up there for years and what a shock i got. to begin with i remember fire engines, army trucks etc all passing my grandmothers house heading up the woods for fires etc. now? they couldnt get through the gate !!! so if u had an emergency with a child etc? theyve no chance of getting help quickly, we walked to the 3 tree's? and boom countryside demolished by hunks of rock below, the quarry is now 3times the size i remember it by. the main paths are getting smaller and some of them just over grown so much there gone. a castle ruin still sitting how it fell on my mothers 18th birthday, but covered in black bags of rubbish from campers, beer bottles n cans , now i understand noone will ever stop that, we did it as teenagers too, but it was never in such a state, that if these woods dont get some help? there wont be walks in 10yrs time, and history up there will be gone... its sad to see a place of history and memories fade, i think many from the villiage would agree, and if the quarry starts blasting they shake gillieshill homes, cus there either same level or not far away i didnt measure it, im no expert, but i do live next to tillicoultry quarry and i do know what it felt like to shake inside your home walls, they blasted that long that they ARE under house level and house's appeared with cracks in exteriar walls, damage to old homes is not easy repaired, that quarry is now closed for work to an extent (no blasting for a few yrs now) (summary) your letting a quarry ruin a beautiful village after all these years, and your letting a historic castle ruin and grounds be berried with the browns family name !!! yours, v mcburney "keep cambusbarron the lovely villiage it alwaz was"

Murrayshall Quarry

Reopening quarry operations at Murrayshall would affect the local environment and residents of Kings Park, Torbrex, Borestone, Broomridge and Carron Valley Community Council areas as well as people in Cambusbarron and others who enjoy our local amenities. The Murrayshall Quarry Liaison Group [MQLG] has been established by Cambusbarron Community Council with the support of other community councils. This group includes local residents and community councillors. Michael Graham has agreed to serve as Convenor of the Murrayshall Quarry Liaison Group. MQLG will act as an independent objective point of contact and a body to aid with communication. We intend to see that community concerns are genuinely addressed and that all those involved in the statutory processes really understand the value of the environmental assets at risk. MQLG needs to hear from you. Anyone who has any information concerning biodiversity and environmental assets of Gillies Hill or who has any information concerning the impact of previous quarry operations should write to MQLG c/o Cambusbarron Library, St Ninians Road, Cambusbarron, FK7 9NU or put a note into the suggestion box at the library. An update on the Quarry proposals will be given at the regular public meeting of Cambusbarron Community Council in Cambusbarron Community Centre on the evening of 20th March.
