Historic Scotland Battlefield Consultation
Are the Bannockburn Community Council aware of and responding to the historic Scotland Battlefield Consultation document? I moved from Bannockburn to Prestonpans several years ago and am now involved with the Battle of Prestonpans Heritage Trust. The Trust is seeking to improve access to, the preservation of and the interpretation of the Battlefield in Prestonpans, which is currently owned by Scottish Coal. I know that a small part of the Bannockburn site is now owned by the NTS but the rest of the site or sites are privately owned and substantially built upon. HS now propose to create a non-statutory inventory of Battle Sites but is reluctant to either introduce any kind of Statutory protection or to do anything to assist with the protection or interpretation of these sites. We are, together with groups from Pinkie and Dunbar, responding to their consultation and would like to drum up as many other local groups with interest in battle sites to do likewise. The Consultation is available on the HS website and is due to end later this month.

old building at carpet close next to the burn.
I walk this way with my dog and I see that stirling council have removed part of the building as it was unsafe? They have also strengthened the building and caped the walls to prevent water ingress to the walls. This building has been uninhabited for 40 years +, the cost for these repairs will have to come from the housing purse. Can our councillors find out what the councils intentions are with this building as they no doubt will have spent a considerable amount of money on this building works.

Access to another site for the Community.
I was at the CC Meeting last week and the CC are looking into providing access to another site, this could be something similar but not exactly the same. This can only be good news for the Community of Bannockburn -Whins of Milton -Hillpark. Cllr Brisley said she was happy to take any question via Stirling council website, brisleym@stirling.gov.uk

Bluebellwood clean up action day
Balquhidderock Countryside Action Day Stirling Council's Countryside Ranger Service and Broomridge Community Council are looking for volunteers to help with a variety of tasks at Balquhidderock Wood on Sunday 8 June from 2pm – 4pm Tasks will include litter picking, pulling up the pretty, but invasive Himalayan Balsam, before it has chance to establish itself in the woodland, and cutting back overhanging vegetation from the paths. Last year local residents mucked-in to help with the Balquhidderock Wood clean up, collecting over 15 bags of rubbish, mainly crisp & sweet packets, cans and bottles. Volunteers are being asked to wear suitable footwear and nettle proof clothing, as there are plenty of nettles growing just now. Meeting at the bottom of the central path that leads up to Bannockburn High School. The Countryside Staff will explain what needs doing and will provide all the equipment needed. Known locally as Bluebell wood, Balquhidderock Wood is a rare and important broadleaved woodland. One of only a few strips of ancient woodland left in the Stirling area. The wood is the only Local Nature Reserve in the Stirling area, a Local Conservation area, a Listed Wildlife site as well as a Listed Ancient Woodland, because of its ancient origin it holds Site of Special Scientific Interest status. Over the last few years Stirling Council's Countryside Ranger Service has been working with the local community in Broomridge to protect and conserve Bluebell wood. Work carried out has included path improvement, removing garden refuse, fly-tipping removal and litter clearance. Despite local volunteers and the Countryside Ranger Service regularly patrolling the woods collecting litter, it still remains a big problem. Litter not only looks bad but can also be dangerous for wildlife, dogs and people. For further information please contact Stirling Council Countryside Service on 01786 442932.

End of an Era?
It is very likely that this site is closing next month. The Teledemocracy team have informed us of this decision with the end of June being the termination date. Any thoughts?

Town Square, New council houses for Bannockburn.
When will the next meeting be held? How will the public be informed of this meeting? Has there been any further discussion with L Malkin / T Cain on the proposed way forward with this issue? Can someone give dates for the next meeting?

Money wasted on Provosts lam post - posts?
Now that we have a new Provost, will this council spend another £7/8 thousand pounds on a new lamp post. 2 LAMPOST AT £7-8 EACH WORKS out at £16K Is that not the amount of money this council will supposivly save by closing the argyle centre. Maybe our Councillors - Provosts, would LIKE to justify this to all. Sent on the 4th of April 2008.

Toilets in BB Graveyard, we do not need a private contractor to have these opened to the public.
I dont know if any one else noticed this The Local Paper informed all that the toilets are closed, that agreement has been made with the contractor selling his wares to keep the toilets open. ALL of this wrong information. The Community after consultation with head of parks department has managed to have the toilets open.

Residents' Survey
Stirling Council gauges resident's views of the Council as a whole and on its individual services every 2 to 3 years. The survey results are then used to help improve and shape services. The latest survey, which is carried out by the Council's Research and Information Team, is being sent to the Stirling Sounding Board, a panel of 1300 residents that is representative of all over-16 year old residents in the Council area. Residents can also take part by completing the survey on line until Friday March 21, 2008

Quakerfield shopping parade and homes security arrangements
Having seen some views on the mosquito system installed at the Quakerfield shopping parade reported in Wednesday 5th March 2008 Stirling Observer and your contention that this device could be against teenager's Human Rights and therefore looking at the withdrawal of the device. The history of the vandalism around this shopping parade has been going on for some 20 years ,causing a great distress to the shop and house residents who have endured fires,vandalism in the form of urination , drunken sickness and as low as deficating in the stairwells along with damage to property- broken windows damaged doors ,sexually offensive graffiti ! If anyone wants to see this graffiti it's still on the walls until the issue of painting over with the council is resolved and the shops having windows broken regularly Many groups have been involved in arresting this problem,Police,community councils, various Local Councillors, residents and shop keepers and the security on a few occasions has been upgraded ,the latest being in 2007.These upgrades have cost the residents,shop keepers and the council a total of approx £20,000 ,although at present the situation has not stopped it has been better since the installation of the mosquito system. I would ask that all groups considering the removal of this device to consider the outcome if we go back to the previous situation ( pre it's installation)when the community and police ,with the best will in the world, failed to control.Those considering the removal should be advised to review the full history of the security of Quakerfield... We all have human rights applied and it surely the moral right of the shopkeepers and residents to live in relative peace and safety in our community without this type of undue harassment.. After all , one must ask "What about the victims, have they not to be given consideration and societies protection"? Can I ask that Bannockburn Community Council look at this situation and if they know of any volunteer group or any group within the council who could help us resolve the disgusting paint problem

heritage of old bannockburn,hillpark and whins of milton

a community member, on 09 July 2006 Firstly I was chatting with Paul Dreczkowski and stated that I would post this item. I get the feeling that Banncokburn is grieving a little, at some loss of 'the community feel of Bannocburn'. I have logged on to this forum a few times, where there have been some cultured debates, and have chatted (informally) to a few local residents lately who also expressed their loss of the community feel of Bannockburn. Example, in Italy where the family is most important (not saying that in Scotland it isn't) they seem to express it openly, which, opens up greater respect generally. For example; in the morning when everyone is heading for coffee, strangers say good morning to you in the street or in the piazza, or in the coffee shop. This gave me an idea; I was walking to McQ's to meet friends one Saturday evening, I decided to say good evening and smile to the people I passed in the street, rather than just pass. All retorted back ! This made me smile. If this was promoted/happened more often it Bannockburn would become a nicer place. Secondly a Town square located opposite the shops next to the Empire, on the green area, it is large enough. Remove the grass, trees and plants and remodel it. A focal point where small events would take place all year round. Choirs, singing, farmers markets, small concerts, plays, games for kids, Christmas Tree, snowman competition, etc... If this was in place and things were arranged people would want to come out their houses to see what was going on. The community would be on the street chatting, being involved and the nedish culture would diminish because there are people on the street, where, the neds think is their territory. The Town Square need it be at the centre on Town not pushed to the back water of the village, it has to be a focal point. Sense of total community restored, and will continue. Bannockburn will become a model for other towns.

Stirlings City FOOTBALL TEAM
In reading the local paper it seems that supporters of the Albion have had their parking spaces reduced from 450 to 280. This is to allow an area for storage of building materials for the new swimming pool. Supporters have parked on the road leading to the new cinema and have been fined £30.00 each. With a warning that their car will be removed and they will pay even more. Is it not enough that this council doesnt want us to have a swimming pool they also dont want us to support our own team. Surely something could be done with this until the car parking spaces stolen are returned to the supporters.
