  • our objectives - Scottish Communities Together (SCT) is established to advance education, citizenship and community development. We do this by

(a) developing tools (referred to as the "e-democracy model") to facilitate interaction among individuals, community groups, community councils, community planning partners and other public service providers across Scotland in a manner which strengthens democratic processes and encourages fuller participation in informed debate about factors affecting people's lives

(b) promoting and supporting the use and overall impact of the e-democracy model through a range of measures, including (i) educating, encouraging and assisting individuals and community groups throughout Scotland to gain access to the internet for this purpose (ii) developing efficient ways of summarising and disseminating appropriate information to, from and between community groups and others throughout Scotland (iii) encouraging and facilitating early and more effective engagement of agencies with individuals and groups, and speedier and more effective responses from individuals and groups (particularly those based in disadvantaged communities) to public/ community consultations

(c) contributing to the work of community councils and others in strengthening local democracy by developing mechanisms for defining issues common to citizens represented across groups of community councils both locally and nationally, and facilitating debate on such issues and participative voting and lobbying

(d) carrying out work of the nature described above in areas outwith Scotland (but such that the activities carried on under this paragraph (d) shall be ancillary to the core work of the company under paragraphs (a) to (c) above.

  • enable the members of their community to debate issues, which citizens consider to be important;
  • enable local community councils to interact with other community councils in Scotland, deciding lists of key issues in priority order and then debating them, voting on them and lobbying the relevant authorities for appropriate changes in policy
  • enable the authorities, whether local councils, service agencies or the Scottish, UK or European Parliaments and their administrations, to listen and respond to informed community views which can influence timely decisions
  • News and Reports - Scottish Communities Together (SCT) announces pilot. Communities who wish to express interest in joining the pilot programme should complete the online form
